View Full Version : Tire size
What size should I get for my new rims? First I'm getting 18' but should I get 8.5 in the front as well as the rear? I have 7.5 in front on OEM. I'm going 1 inch larger and I don't want to loose too much on power vs. weight ratio. I'm also getting the Supercharge soon so I'm not sure if 235 wide tire will do the job? :)

Gary,
If you are going to SC, a 235 tire will not do... You'll need at least a 18x9.5 at the rear with a min of 255. 265 would even be better but only for 19's.
A non staggered setup of 235's all around is good for the twisties and is much lighter than a rear wheel 265 setup but that only applied to a non forced induction setup.
I want to get SC but I know I will change my car in 1yr so I'm CONFUSED again. Do you think a 8.5 rims will fit the 255-265?

265's need a 9.5
255 are on the ZHP's 18's. I think they are 8.5 :Idunno:

18x9 is ideal on 255. Most tire manufacturers suggest a 9" wide rim for 255 but it will fit 8.5-10" range.

That's a lot of dough to drop into a car that's gonna be replaced in 1 year. Replace it now and get an SC or just get a new diff to tide you over for a year (they call it a poor man's SC anyway :) ). Probably easier to resell a diff than a SC and it's definitely easier to uninstall/re-install as well. Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the input. :) If I don't get the Sc, definitely diff is the way I will go. I'm pretty happy with my LFW. Next time you can try it out. ;)

Don't know man, saw the picture of the new 3 series and I think it's ugly. When I saw the e46 for the first time I love it, didn't need to grow on me. So far the new 5 series still look ugly to me :blaaaa:
How many horsie does those new 3 series have?

Wouldn't you have to wait like at least 3 years? I guess the first year it comes out you wouldn't want to touch it because it might still have alot of bugs they have to work out. If you're looking for a coupe version they don't come out on the first year right? So to be safe waiting for the 3rd generation of the model is always good :)
What if you waited and the car turn out to be just as ugly as you thought...now can you go and get a nice '04 ZHP at that time? I take it not unless you're buying used :0

I actually like the new 5 series. I love BMW so it will grow out of me. 18yrs of driving BMW will not bother me with the look unless it's really really out of hand.
