We had a mini OEM M3 mirror installation meet today in my semi-heated garage. Thanks to Sunapollo, our designated mirror installation, I have finally got rid of the elephant ears.

The turn out was awesome. Audiophilia, 6_Pac, IanS, Alexm520, Oyster showed up and helped out.

For some reason everyone became very enthusiatic when its' time to take apart my car.

Finally my heart beat managed to slow down when the door panel was snapped back on

All and all it took about 1.5hr to do both mirrors. I just can't thank Sunapollo enough. Flawless workmanship.

After taking one car apart Sunapollo decided that he hasn't had enough for the day yet and IanS became his next victim.

After the installation some of the guys stayed for coffee and snack. It was fun guys!!!

If possible I will work with Sunapollo on a DIY since we now even know what to do with E46 sedans.

Great meet, Trevor. And your little e46er, Julian, is gorgeous!

Yup, the OEM M3 mirrors really transform the car. Great mod. I adore mine!

Sorry we couldn't stay for door number 2; the e46 meetings I had to attend were very interesting...:secret:

Missed you at coffee -- Starbux, not that TH crappy stuff that Golpar made us drink....;) :D

Looking forward to seeing your new rims...yes, you have the mod bug...your soul now belongs to e46toronto....:yak:

Ian -- don't forget to check out the DIY link for the 6 pin info (http://www.e46fanatics.com/howto/howtodetail.php?howto_id=6)

Sunapollo -- you are still the maestro. Your work is flawless and you are very generous with your time. A model E46toronto.ca member.

I am keeing an eye on "for sale" section(s) over the winter :D

Sigh. I *need* to get myself a set of these mirrors now. I hate you all! :}:

Where do you guys order them from? Do they come painted already?

Also, for the power foldup option, do you have to cut anything out of the door panel to fit the button?

Trev, just check if you have fuse 57. If you do then you will get the function simply by changing the switch.

Nice install..

I wish I had time to stop by so that someone can help take my doors apart and find out if I use 12 pin or ribbon connection!

Is your car 4 dr or 2 dr? if 4 dr then joint me together for the GB going on E46fanatics, since oem will not fit 4 dr w/o molding the base. So it is a good reason to cheap out and get the replicate. :blaaaa: if you are interested, go see the other thread on the group buy section.

I'm a coupe guy. I guess the group buy is for the 4 door car mirrors eh?

No, the group buy is for both coupe and sedan.. the only thing they don't do is ribbon connectors.

Too bad something came up and I couldn't drop by on Sat. Great turn out, guys!

Maybe "E46's kindest member" can help me take apart my door panel too when he's got the time later. :)

BTW do we need any special tool to pry open the panel?

Sunapollo

we can have a group panel removal meet later :) no special tool is needed except for a T20 screwdriver.

I am not sure what I need for this mirror install. How do I tell what connector I need? How do I tell if I can have the power-flip-up mirror or not? Which fuse was it I had to see to be able to do it?

The only way to find out is to let Sunapollo take apart your car's door at the group door panel meet!

The catch is YOU have to put it back together.:yak:

Does that mean I don't know what mirror to order until after I open the door panel???

Does your right mirror tilt down when you put in reverse ?? If you do then you have 12pins mirrors otherwise 6pins... but it's safer to take it apart to examine. I wish I have X-ray eyes :yak:

Unfortunately my mirror does not tilt down (disturbs me greatly). So does this mean I cannot have the power tilty coolness mirrors?

Sunapollo
12-08-2004, 08:26 PM
I am not exactly sure how power tilt mirrors work ... I know there's motor in each mirror to turn the whole mirror case up and down .. but if you don't have reverse tilt then you should have 6 pins ... we can dissemble your door and take a look at it later :D

GnarlyCow

Hmmm, guess I'll have to wait to order my mirrors until you can rip my door panel off and tell me what I need to do :)

the other thing they said is that if you don't have memory seats, then you will use 6pin instead of 12.

even if you have memory seat but no reverse tilt mirror then it is still a 6 pin. We confirm it by taking apart my door panel :0

GnarlyCow

I don't have memory seats or auto tilting mirrors, so I guess it's the 6 pin connector for me

So the dealer had to take my door panel off yesterday to fix my passenger door lock.. I should have asked him to check the mirror connection at that time... curses!
anyways, it seems like they had to disable the side airbag when they remove the door panel... is this true? when you guys remove the door panel, did you need to worry about the airbag??

Sunapollo

We didn't disable the side airbag.

if you are worried about the air bag will deploy... just disconnect the MAIN battery...
