My friend just got a 2009 335D and he wants to use the snow tires from his old BMW.

The original tire size for the new 335D is 225/45/R17.

Can the old snows from the 5 series size 225/50R17 fit?

BMW says no but I am not sure.

Thanks

technically they will fit. but the tire profile will be larger. and subsequently, its going to throw off the speedometer. and in your case, its going to show your speed slower than you actually are going.

its not that significant and i would personally just use those snows and save money

It's not a big deal, especially for snow. Spedo error will be 3.5%.

So when speedo says 100km/h you are actually going 103.5 km/h.

Apparently BMW said the tire will rub which i do not believe.

Would the old rims for the E60 fit on the E90?

Would the old rims for the E60 fit on the E90?Ah…did not realize you want to use the wheels too. You probably cannot use e60 wheels on an e90. Offset is way lower on the e60 - 20mm vs 35mm for the e90 so they will probably rub. Centre bore is the same so the wheels will be hubcentric which is critical. (ie the e39 has a larger bore and cannot be use on any 3 series without centering rings)

I’d try them to see if they rub after some hard cornering. They will look cool if they fit.

The tires are OK to reuse though.
