Is anybody excited about the upcoming DVD release of the Star Wars trilogy episodes 4,5 & 6 !!!!

I was watching the 2h documentary that I taped from A&E and it got me so pumped up.

Those 3 moves have changed the entire planet in so many different ways. Not to mention his companies THX, Industrial Light and Magic, Skywalker Sound, Pixar.....

Yes I know George Lucas has milked people over and over again with the definitive collection and the special editions over and over BUT people still buy them. I bought the Definitive collection on Laserdisc for over $400 way back when... I'm sure once episode 3 is out next year, he will have another box set. He has also stated that Lucasfilm is working on all 6 movies for HiDef DVD as yet another box set.

I can't wait !!!!!

Our excitement is directly proportional to how quickly we get to see it at your place! (BTW - do you have "Pitch Black" on DVD)... ;)

You know, I actually don't have pitch black but I did like it and Cronicles of Riddick....group buy anybody :confused2

I got this post form the massave thread on AVSForum about the new set.

Anthony read the last line!!!!

oh, and bye the way....how many times has he released and re-released Star Wars on video, laserdisc, etc. There were your chances to own the "originals" that you think you are owed again. If you got rid of them too bad. If they were cleaned up and put on DVD they would technically be adulterated versions of their former selves anyway right? Lucas doesn't owe anyone the originals. He released them dozens of times before giving multiple opportunities to purchase and own them. Maybe they should stop redoing SACD because it sounds better than the artist intended...that evil 5.1 mix envelops too much. I want to be pure and stereo!

I will be calling in sick on the 22 and watching them back to back..... :^o:

I did the same thing in the theatres for Star Wars and Empire :Qboy:

I also stood in line for almost 3 hours for tickes for the showing of episode 1. I bought the wrong time too (wanted to see it the following day) and ended seeing it the opening night with all the fans wearing costumes and other wierd things. Was a amazing experience though with the fans clapping, cheering and reacting to the movie.

Eric- I remember going to the triple header when I was a kid to see Star Wars, Empire and Return but the new series has soured my taste in Star Wars.

You know that Lucas went back and made changes to the originals like digitally putting in Christianson into ROTJ? Like he was a good actor or something. NOt to impressed with this kind of tinkering!!

Although, your home system kick a** so let us know when you'll be screeing and we'll bring some popcorn!!! :D :D :D

Hey Ed,

I know Lucas has changed the movies time and again but I still want to see them in the DVD 480p format for now. I have held off watching the LD's just for this and the HK bootlegs of the LD's are just not for me. I've only skimmed the threads about how Lucasfilm has scanned each and every frame and fixed every flaw. The sound has also been optimized for at home HT use.

I have read about all the new changed for the DVD set.... :confused2 Wait till 2006 or 2007 when the HD-DVD set comes out. I'm sure he will change it again.

Remember when Spielberg took out the guns in ET and replaced them with radios?

Yup, just don't use it too much anymore. T2 is outstanding though. I suppose there won't be too many LD players that would be compatible with your HT system in terms of sound...?

:D..........

True so true. 2 Ch "if done right" can sound better than 5.1 but you can't argue the fact that 5.1 or 7.1 has changed the way we watch/listen to movies. Every audio shop in the GTA has some HT gear.... All the HIGH HIGH end manu. that sell for big $$$ now have at least 5ch amps. Keeps the income flowing.

Now if I could only get a decent vinyl setup for less and records...

Mark,

The threads on the HT forums always go back to the same point. The uncompressed PCM sound for LD does sound better than the compressed sound of 5.1. This is strickly in terms of quality! 5.1 has the envelopment and .1 sub channel though....Music from LD's sound great.

I still have a Pioneer CLD-704 with the AC3 digital out. Ant. that unit was regarded as a great CD transport going to a DAC but alas I don't have an external DAC anymore.

I'm gonna get in crap for OT here...I can just see it.

Eric, it reminds me of those old days of Car Audio when the purists were trying to get good staging and SQ using just placement and good quality equipment, not time delay, digital processing, etc etc. Remember the old Alpine 7909? Even the mainstream 7905/7903? Or the original 7907? Show me a head unit these days that is simple and beautiful, with dead clean sound quality. I don't need dolphins swimming across my HU!! Man, that is why I'd never replace my Business HU. The current ones are totally fugly.

Vinyl setup? Me too...I refuse to give up my Santers Band and Luba albums!

Sorry for the rant - I feel much better now... ;)

I was working for a shop up north when DVD first came out. We did a head to head with a Panasonic DVD against a Denon "auto reverse" LD player on a Pioneer Premier monitor (no HD yet) and a nice audio system. The Panasonic couldn't even compare in audio OR video quality.

BUT the DVD had this new wonder called "5.1". And the consumers ate that up - with fully separated rear channels, who wouldn't? Man how things have progressed even in the last 6 or so years...

OMG Mark the old 7909 was my dream HU but I couldn't afford it back then. Even now audiophiles (Anthony) try and get good staging and SQ using just placement and good quality equipment. NO 5.1 or other processors!

Back to Star Wars though.....Do you remember a black GrandNational with the licence plate DARTH? I used to drive into sound-offs with the Darth Vader theme music. I had a black 200SX.... :confused2

I watched the THX WOW demo last night...What terrable picture quality.

I can't wait to get this. I have actually put off buying a DVD player until this set was available.

Do you guys have any suggestions on a good player? I want to spend about $750.

By the way Empire is my fav of the three.

Of course Empire is arguably the best of the entire franchise so far. I guess it is because it is the darkest and lowest point for all the characters.

"Luke, I am your father" is known all around the world.

Ambasah, what will you be hooking the DVD player up to? Will it be a wide screen, hi definition set with component inputs or even DVI? If you are willing to spend that much, you should look at getting a DVD recorder. For a player that will be strictly used to play movies, there are a few less than $400 that are very well regarded in the HT geek forums that I belong to. I used to have a $1000 DVD player that I sold and replaced with a $350 player that has a much better picture and at least equivalent sound in 5.1 using the digital out.

PM me if you want more info or help.
A few members have already seen my HT setup that has taken me years to develop and become reality.
