Can someone please help me out here?

What did i do wrong ..

I wanted to do up my headlight covers (they are plastic)

I bought Plastx (thought it would maybe work a bit ... it kinda does a little but not what I wanted at all)

So i kind of followed steps from this guy ...

I used sandpaper with a bucket of water beside me and a bit of soap..

Started with 600 Grit (i'm not fully sure how long you should do it)... and i stopped at night (i didn't have any other grits)... the headlight cover was pretty foggy / oxidized out of no where (on outside) but it was very smooth and clean looking

Today I bought 1000 and 2000... i finished up one headlight and damn is it ever foggy now...

What the heck is going on... does someone have a product to clear up this fog? I tried turtle wax polishing compound scratch remover and it would not do anything either...

You need a plastic polish to get rid of the fogginess. A polishing compound might also work.

There is a product at Crappy Tire in the detailing section thats called a "Headlight Restoration Kit". Saw it when I went to pick up some Meguirs Gold Class Wax on the weekend. Didn't take a close look at it, just noticed it on the shelf - but it is meant to clear up the lens. Maybe you might wanna take a look at it.

Just be careful not to damage/remove the protective film on the lens itself. This was a concern when I had to remove the first layer of tint i put on my headlight - hence I sent the lenses to a professional. If you do remove it, the lens is more prone to pits and cracking when hit by road debris and stones.

I used the PlastX product by itself without any sanding and it worked for me. I think the use of sandpaper on the lenses should be reserved to serious cases of pitting.

Based on the pics you posted, I looks like it has gotten too rough for PlastX. You'll probably need to do some wet sanding with 1200 grit to get it to a point where PlastX will be effective.

I used this product on a honda civic where the lights were yellowish from the fade. it worked really well. I think it would have worked better if I have had a buffer.

You really need a buffer to remove the 600grit sanding marks. You shouldn't have used such a coarse grit...start with 1500 and work your way up to 2000 or higher.

Go to a detail shop and ask them to buff for you. It'll take all of 15mins.
