3 hour special about the design and production of a BMW 'sports car'. Don't know which one. Should be interesting, though. May be a repeat...

For the 'pansit' crew, it's repeated at midnight...gotta have HD channels, tho

I can't tape HD yet....
I'd like to get a HD PVR but it costs even more $$$ monthly and all the bugs aren't worked out yet....

Isn't it on regular Discovery channel?

I've only had 2 rogers HD terminals. The older 30xx and the new one but still no HDPVR. The old one was working fine but the new one has better features.

the 3 hour show made me feel proud to be associated with BMW.

research, testing, marketing, and more and more testing and refining is what makes our cars great!

The show was about the new 6. 3 hours, but with FF thru ads via Tivo, watched in about 2 hours.

I've saved it.

If you have not seen it, it's worth a look...maybe after a westend meet sometime...

HD BMWs...drooooool:)

I saw it too last night...was REALLY neat how much detail BMW puts into our cars (although the show was about the new 6 series) It made me really think.."Did they do all that when they built my car??"

quality may be a big part of bmw's, but then again they have had their share of troubles...

1) nikasil engines
2) plastic water cooler impellers
3) E36 rear subframe mounts
4) E46 M3 engine....yes I got the 2nd "quality enhancement" call to change the lower bearings. I missed the first recall, but this second one really makes me wonder what the long term reliability of this engine really is...

They certainly have, but comprehensive testing is not quality control...the testing shown on this video (granted, a BMW love in), was extraordinary...

I've read/heard about the recall on the 2001 and 2002 M3's How about the 03's and the 04's ?????

I've heard and experienced the load of problems that e46 are supposed to go through in their lifetime, how come no recall or at least cover on warranty. Or is this their strategy to think the owners will come back to the dealership to get it sorted out?

My ride is '00 323i pre-certified, bought by me in '03 of May at 77,000kms. I also got the extended warranty option.

Since the purchase here's what has happened to the car and what has been covered by warranty:
oxygen sensor - not covered
window regulator - not covered
final stage resistor - not covered

ball joint/control arm - covered
rear springs - covered

moon roof sheild cover - broken, still...

This is what I've brought to the stealership. i understand a certain selection of repairs is covered especially on non-wearable parts, but the other stuff... i dunno.

Somebody enlighten me..however, I still don't regret buying a BMW. i love it.

Hey Chris, there is a DIY over at fanatics about how to repair those clips. This guy bought just the plastic bits and did it himself. Sorry, don't have the link.

Out of curiosity, when did it break? Were you sliding it by hand, or was the moonroof pulling it? Closed or open?

Cool, I'll look for it. Thanks Mark. Parkview was charging me $150 to fix my moon roof. :( That's mod money. Even for PIAA's.

That's what I figure. But not according Parkview.
Of course they have that bible that shows whats covered and wha'ts not. For me... I don't have time to argue nor will I argue with corporations. Pay it, fix it, and when I find/found out I got screwed over, I don't go back and neither will anybody i've referred or potential referrals.

More loss for them than me.

The clips are supposed to be pretty cheap. I think it is just a pokey job...

Same as the damn window regulators. It is the nylon clips that break, not the whole unit. Saw another DIY on that, and this guy just did the clips which were substantially cheaper than the whole regulator. A little more work, but way cheaper.

Speaking of the window regulators, has anyone here opened up the door panels and lubed the rails? (That doesn't sound too good does it...) My driver's door window was making a horrible squeal when going up, so I pulled apart the door and the rails were bone dry and the galvanised metal was slightly corroded (not a smooth surface for the nylon carriers). That's probably how these clips break in the first place. I used a plastic safe grease on the rails, and it is working 200% better. I wonder if that is the way to stop this problem from happening??

I've been considering opening the door panels. Sometimes I hear a ticking sound after the windows are fully opened... not immediately, sometimes its after 15-30 seconds. Saw some posts in roadfly that says the ticking sound is a sign the regulators are going to go but it's so random and it's been happening since I got the car way back in '99.

Did you ever get that ticking sound?

Canuck328i

No ticking, just a ear ripping squeal whan the window was near the top. I mean ear ripping. Considering how easy it is to open up the doors, this lube thing might now be part of the spring ritual. Only thing is dealing with that glued in insulation panel, and getting it to reseal properly.

One back window almost seems to "shift" slightly as it is going up, so I'm nervous about that one.

Not just the auto-down... Why? Is it a known defect of the auto-down feaure?

I might open the panel up next week when I get bored. Any tips, traps to watch out for?
