I got my keys to be programmed like that as well when i picked up my car....it was free. It's a neat feature...I'm sure you can ask to get it done at your dealership. Comes in very handy on a hot, summer's day...very 007 like.

afaik, first key program is (usually) complimentary as part of the PDI (I emailed dealer in advance with options I wanted). However, subsequent ones you will get charged for unless you can sweet talk it out of the dealership.

Some very nice features on the key memory though. If you would like a complete list, check here (http://www.bmwnation.com/tech/tech_3carkeycfg_01.html).

yes, you're right...the first key program is complimentary...if it's not your 1st time, try sweet talking your way at the dealerships. smaller dealerships will probably do it for you rather than the big ones like BMW Toronto.

That's a good idea...to check out the list and send your request a couple of weeks before you pick up your car. That's what i did :)

I emailed my service advisor at Downtown BMW about this when I saw that post too. He said they won't do it. It's a safety issue because they're afraid that people's limbs might get in the way and things like that so dealer won't program that kind of thing.

Ok. So Downtown is off the list. Someone call up Budds & Sauga.
I'll check with Parkview on Monday.

What Downtown did it for you? Ok man I gotta have a chat with my service advisor :P
Although I do agree that it's pretty risky to have such a feature. You might cut someone's head off if not careful. Let say that you have a friend sitting in your car with his/her head sticking out and you press the button by mistake (ok I know you have to hold it down and all but work with me here) :)

there's actually a sensor...so if some object is in the way it will stop. my dealer guy showed me how it worked by putting his hand when the sunroof was closing, and it stopped. neat eh?

My dealership is Downtown BMW at Sunlight Pk Rd....you can see it from the DVP on ramp to the Gardiner.

Then your passengers should be more careful. Just like a roller coaster, keep all hands/head in. Put a disclaimer on your door.

Well, hopefully they won't charge... maybe not for the '04 drivers.
But maybe with the older ones.

But I guess depends on who you ask.

Hey guys I just read this post again.
I would like to repeat what I said on the fanatics board. Anyone can have this programmed if you find a good dealer.
Chris you're right I got kinda flamed for posting that anyone's car will do this on the fanatics board, but they are all just jealous I guess. hahaha! :p

Like it has been stated in this thread, the US models aren't deactivated b/c of the safety reasons. Everyone should know that the windows have the "pressure sensors" and there is no way that some kid's fingers are going to get caught in the window.

Just keep working on the dealers you guys use. Even offer to pay!!

It can't be programmed on pre 2002 cabriolets. :crying:

Can't even program windows to wind down with the key remote. I asked Parkview and T&C and both said same thing. People on Roadfly also agreed.

Hey Rice,

I got my car programed at Downtown too (for the alarm clown nose) and it came with that window feature. The only thing that I don't like is that the rear triangle windows also open up.... :Qboy:

Hi all,

I just stopped by BK motors to have this feature activated on my 2001 330Ci. They were happy to oblige but couldn't find the setting! They did provide me with the master printout of all my options, and I couldn't discern which one would do the trick either. They did mention that they've recently upgraded their software system, and perhaps this feature was removed from their list of accesible options... Has anybody done this recently (ie in the last month)?

Any comments would be much appreciated,

GTC
