I need to change my oil.
Eric, would you be able to give me a hand?
If so, I'll pick up the oil and filter. Would I need anything else?

Eric?
If it happens, I have 'dibs' for 1st in line:p
I'm tired of moocamooca at starbuck. :p Bring a 36mm socket if you do change oil.
HS. I did my oil change last month at Europa Motors for $105.
Tha's not bad. Oil and filter will cost you $60 buck. They only charging you $40 labour. I could do it for $ 20buck labour. :p

Oil change is very easy to do espically on a Bimmer. I do all my oil changes even though my car still has the free maintenance. I just don't believe BMW when they tell me that their oil can last 13000km between changes.

I think they said it can last long as 25k. I don't believe it either. The filter will go out before the oil.

U can take it to any Cdn Tire or auto shop..they'll get rid of it...
I do mine every 5-7K's..it's cheap insurance especially in summer when we're "pushing" the cars more... I have a hook-up for E46 oil filters through the dealership... $8.00 + GST... comes with both gskts and same as Mahle. I'll bring one to next meet and we can decide on a GB..

Ed , you can use synthetic little bit longer. The regular oil is up to 5k. :)

What I do is put the old oil in the new container after I put it in the car. Then dispose it.

Take it to Canadian Tire of Mr.Lube. They will take it and dispose the oil for you.
Although I have some incideces where some dude from Canadian Tire asked for $5 for disposing my oil. If you get asked, just take it to another place. Most of the places will take the oil.

OK group oil change at my place!!!!
Bring extra bottles to put the used oil in then somebody can take a whole boatload to the lube place down the street. :^o:
Surk, $8 for a filter is a great buy. I buy mine at the dealership for $14 just so I get a receipt for BMW that I do change my oil.
I still have a 4L jug of Mobile 1 5W30. The price at Cdn Tire is 28.49 right now... :thumbsdow I saw it a couple of weeks ago for 24.99.... :(

What time? My baby's coming up on 5K. If I don't change my oil, I may attend just to learn for when it's time. Are you planning on using a pump or doing a gravity drain?

We are going to be using a pump since it is so much easier and cleaner to do it that way plus some of the cars are too low to get up on ramps or jack stands. (I do know the 2x4 trick but it is still too messy)
Come on out mark. It would be great to see you and your car again! :}:

Pump is the way to go....Ialso use the pump and it makes the oil changes so much faster and cleaner!
Quick question for you Eric. After all the oil are s***** from the dip stick area, do you do use the pump to suck all the oil from the filter area as well?
Thanks,
BMWBOY88
M333ee
09-20-2004, 11:06 AM
I actually don't suck the oil out of the filter area so as to make sure when the next startup occurs that there is no oil starvation through the filter.
I could be way wrong here but that is what I have heard from other boards and mechs.... :Idunno:

I agree, 25000km is a long time, especially if you drive the car hard. I change mine at least once inbetween the intervals, depending on what Im doing with the car. The only bad news is that my oil costs something like $16 a liter.

Hi Anthony,
If you need an oil change immediately and don't have time to research/assess all the options, you can always get the oil from the dealer. It will cost you a buck more per liter compared to the ones on sale. For 6 or 7 bucks more, you can rest assured your car is getting what BMW engineers recommend. Just my 2 cents...

I do use Mobil 1 but each of us have to be comfortable with our own decision on what we want to put on our cars. I was just suggesting to Anthony (since he seemed overwhelmed with all the choices) to go with what's recommended until he has more time to research and decide what other oils he'd be comfortable with.
As for myself, I am very comfortable putting Valvoline, Castrol, Mobil 1 5w30 (synthetic). In an emergency, I will even put Canadian Tire and Walmart synthetics because generic brands are made by the big name companies anyway.
