i was thinking of waxing my car before winter hits...any suggestions on waxing products? when i got the car, i didn't opt for paint protection/etc...so i'm a bit concerned about protecting my car before the harsh winter hits. how often do you guys wax your cars? I wash once every two weeks...but i'd like to do somethin more to protect the paint.
Rice --> did you get the dealer to paint protect & rust proof your car? i think they include rust proofing at the factory...

I'm assuming you're driving your car this winter. I'm guessing these guy will say "Zaino!" to protect your car. Hmmmm come to think of it since I'm driving this winter too I should also wax my car. Lets do a before winter car wax meet hehehe :secret:
I don't know about the paint protection but I think they rust proof your car already. They didn't offer me anything so I'm assuming it's all there. I didn't know there is such thing as paint protection :0
Yo Regin8r and gang.....which wax should we use?

Paint protection.....The stuff that is supposed to protect your car forever :indiffere I was scammed before but never again.
All you need to do is to keep cleaning your car and if you can, wax once a month in the summer and at least one full wax before the winter snow comes. Black or dark colored cars are the hardest to keep the swirl marks from showing but if you can, try to do eveything by hand.
I have been tuned onto Zanio but I have heard good things about Maguires NXT or Eagle one products. All the major brands are good but to get the ultimate shine for the summer you have to clay bar, seal, then wax (get Chris to do it)

Note to members: If dealer offers Paint Protection, deny. I used to work as a detailer in dealerships and know how they operate "behind that big white wall.". If they offer rust protection, be a real anal arsehole saying "Make sure this, make sure that", this ensures they do a really good job. otherwise, the rustproof job is halfass. NOBODY likes to rustproof...speaking from experience and they will get corners to make the job faster. i, on the other hand hates half-ass jobs.
Wax: Zaino seems good long term protection based on what I have seen but I have never used it so I will not back it up 100%...yet.
Pinnacle Souveran is good for short term protection but has a deeper and more lustrous finish. Better for showroom.
Stay away from Turtle Wax, stay away from Mother's Carnuaba. Leaves too much crusty residue and becomes time consuming to remove.
Eric is correct, clay after the winter. A good claying, then polish then wax will really bring the orient blue out.
And yes I'm available to "Winterize" your ZHP if you're too busy. :wink2:
There shouldn't be a specific time to wash your car. Wash it when ever is needed. Use a good carwash shampoo. :)

Yup, Chris does it and he will give a member price.
He uses Pinnacle and also offers Zaino I believe. Premier hosted the Zaino Demo Day earlier in the summer.
For Zaino stuff: http://www.zaino.ca/
There is an order form link there and I have a supplier that usually sells it to me for the price that is there without any taxes or shipping. I organized probably 3 group buys with the guy so I shouldn't have a problem getting any of the Zaino stuff.
He carries Stoner's products, 303 Aerospace Protectant, 3M swirl remover.
I honestly trust Zaino more for winter because of longevity of the product (protection  ). I used to be a total Meguiar's fanatic, but Zaino does last longer in winter.
In the summer, I use Meguiar's Medallion Premium Paint Protection because I find I can get a little more "depth" in the shine using that, with the Meguiar's Show Car Glaze. But I do that once a month. Zaino will easily last 6 months.
I just a fanatic though, not an expert.

yeah, they offer the whole works including paint protections for $400. I didn't go for it cause my dealer guy said it wouldn't be worth it if i intend to wax every so often. they said rust proofing is done at the factory...which is good....plus there is a 6 year rust perforation warranty.

About swirl marks... you will eventually and always get swirl marks, cobweb srtaches etc. As long and cloth, fabric, whatever touches the car, your marks.
It's how the car is washed/dried/polished/waxed is the deciding factor of how much swirlies are left.
And yes...my car too has swirlies, you just can't see them. :wink2:

Rust proofing is not done at the factory. After the assembly line, it's a base model.
Rustproofing are all options just like sport package, rain sensor, memory seats etc. They do them as they are ordered by customers. Some dealerships may aborb the cost and order them then work that price in with the car, then try to sell you an upgrade on top of it so they make the $ spent back... That's why they're called car stealerships. :thumbsdow

Rust proof is ordered after.
Unless of course they make '04 330ci ZHP rust proofed as a standard. I'm not sure about that. Not everybody likes rustproofing.
Rain sensors standard for you model. Not mine. It's an option. I meant other options in general.
I rustproofed my car, underneath and all the hinges, I ended up removing the rustproofing from under the hood parts. It was too messy and it doesnt look clean. I kept the undercarriage coated obviosly.

When car is shipped, there is a clear oil like substance that is sprayed on the car, but I don't think that is the exact same chemical that they use for rustproofing.

No. That's not it. Rustproofing for door hinges, exposed areas like under trunk lids etc are a clear but yellowish colour which is why it looks bad when it gets dirty and old after a year or so, depending how often the car is clean. When dutty, it becomes more light brown.
Undercarriage rp is black as tar and really thick & gooey. (That didn't sound right.)
And its an option after assembly and delivery.

Chris, I've been told that our Canadian spec cars are rust-poof-ed from the factory but they do not use that blcak gooey stuff. More of like a clear coating underneath. I've been under the car when it was on the hoist and it looked clear and rust free to me.
The black undercoating and the yellow wax stuff is aftermarket.

Possibly...but still somewhat disagree in my opinion. Your car looked clear and rust free cause you hardly take your car out for it to be exposed to factors to cause rust. No rain, no snow for you car.
Oxygen makes rust grow, if there is an exposed bare metal area. No matter how many times Maaco fixes it, it comes back... terminal cancer for a car.
Also another factor is the quality of the vehicle. Obviously, our cars are less prone...(supposedly) to factors of wear & tear of daily use. Hence, we pay more for quality.
And I don't believe everything a stealership tells me. IMO and my 2 cents.

Sorry guys, just a poor attempt at humour. Turtle Wax is so bad and has such a sht rep, I thought the joke was obvious. My mistake.
As Chris said, Zaino or Pinnacle seems to be the e46 polymer/wax of choice.
To make things easy, I say take your ride to Premier, grab some lunch, come back and be mind blown by how great your car looks...Chris' work is the best in the city. Bar none! He transforms cars...
From there, you can see what works on your car and from then on, maintain it yourself...

I've tried all except Mother's Carnuaba.
I would say give zaino a try. They can keep you car shiny for at least few months. The only drawback is you need to spend all day long just waxing the car.
Or if you want your car shiny like a show car, ask Chris and he will tell you how good is Pinnacle Souveran. He just waxed my car today, and the result is amazing.
Turtle wax is good if you want to save time and $$. It is not as nice as the two above, plus it leaves lots of residual on the car that you have to wait the wind blow them off. But TW is very durable, and only took me an hour to finish waxing.

To each his own...when i was deciding on cars...I was pretty set on the Nissan Z...and then I went to BMW Toronto. On my first visit, when i was dressed like a bum (with tearaways/runners)...my dealer guy was so nice that he spent 1 hour with me and let me test drive it. I wasn't even intending to test drive that day. After that, I just fell in love with the ride...I'd say it beats a Nissan Z any day...of course if you are talking about hp, the Z or G35 is better...but looks wise...interior & exterior...and handling, you can't beat a bimmer.

As for the G35, I just think the back is so big....
As a former E46 driver, I totally agreed what you said. And I was almost got my 2nd bimmer but not G35, if I didn't get so much hassle from T+C last year..... E46's interior material and design are awesome, far better than G35. Exterior wise....to each his own. I will rank 350z first, then e46 coupe facelifted + m-tech kit, and G35 gonna be my last choice. But unfortunately, I need the back seat for my dogs, so I can't get 350z. HP wise......I still have no clue why I can't catch up Bluesky's 330ci, wherever on Shannoville track or street start. :Idunno:
Maybe next year I will get my new bimmer and start another e90toronto.ca forum :p
