Anyone here selling their oem alarm? Or just curious, how much will it cost to get a new set at our local dealer? Or may be if it is better to get an aftermarket (Clifford or Viper) and is the installation a big hassle? Thanks

NOt sure about current prices but getting a used set ismuch cheaper and the installation is fairly easy i hear. That being said the OEM alarn is not a very good burglar/alarm system in itself if you are really worried about protecting your car.

What about a Boomerang system? I hear those are the best....although pricey.

Boomerang is more of a theft recovery system although the newer Boomerang 2 does offer an immediate call to the dispatch if the car moves without a transponder that is typically attached to the keyring.

The OEM alarm offers tilt and motion detector (window smash) detection and will just start blaring a siren. There is a DIY for installing a shock sensor but other than that the only extra thing you can do is have the alarm configured to go off if the key is turned in the door handle. By default turning the key will disable the alarm but so will someone who puts a screwdriver into the keyhole.
