I think they used the wrong technique to get it off.
If you use your weight on the wrench and exercise constant force = you round that stupid nut
If you give it a good impact, voila, it will un-thighten
When I try to remove some bolt or nut and I feel it won't cooperate, I take out the rubber hammer and hammer it to mimic the impact wrench.
I got a metal claw that grips by 3 grips points, that should do the trick

Ahhh, the plight of the backyard mechanic that doesn't even qualify as a backyard mechanic. The dude needs to get himself a 1986 Chev pickup instead of a poor innocent E46!

Man...thank god we use the shared knowledge of the members to help avoid major messes like that guy on DIYs. I think by that point, I would have just called a flat bed and taken it in to my mechanic. :D
