View Full Version : The road suddenly turned to gravel....

Driving home from work this morning I decided to take a different route. Much to my surprise the road turned to gravel, the sound was horrifying. To make matters worse traffic in the opposing direction drove with wreckless abandon like it was the flippin' dukes of hazzard. No matter how slow and tight to the right I travelled it was like driving through Haley's comet.

Now with the wash and wax complete, I am trying to convince myself it's not that bad. Virtually every panel has white chips...some actually dented.
Not as bad as it sounds really, but it wasn't like that yesterday!!! what a mistake!

I'm considering a paint pen... or consulting a bodyshop in the spring. Can a bodyshop make this as good as new? Or could I do a better or just as good job myself?? Any suggestions/recommendations?

The reason I mention bodyshop is that I'd make sure to have a 3m poly bra thrown on the hood after the touchup.

I have the bmw touch-up paint but I don't paint my nails so I'm all over the place with it.

    :( :crying:

well painting with a bodyshop, and painting ur hood wouldnt cost too much, my hood costed me $350 but i also had a dent on it, so just paint must cost u even less maybe around $280-320 so if u want i can give u the person who did my car and ask Chris he saw my car's result after

i would go to EA. they did amazing work but are quite picky about it. like they wont do a shabby job so sometimes it costs a lil bit more. if there is a chip on every panel then it might cost a bit but if only on the hood or something then u should be fine.

the road turned to gravel. the last time that happened to me wuz in haliburton n there were a lotta signs taht said so. where the hell were u

If EA is European Autobody, then I agree with stax on this one. They just finished my ACS Roof spoiler and repaired some minor blemishes on the M3 lip spoiler earlier this week ... more $$$, but definitely worth the cost to have it done right ... these guys are real pro's ... :yourmyido

That sucks... that'll put a dent into your modding... Sorry to hear Jamin. you'll have to make up for it by doing more overtime. :D

the 401 east is killer right now... they're repaving the majority of in the Scarborough area both sides.

Spoilers refinished and re-installed, also, the ACS spoiler I got from the U.S. (vendor name withheld) was a piece of sh*t, needed some serious sanding, repair and refinishing, I can't believe I waited almost 4 months for that piece of crap ...

I know EA is expensive, they have BMW's, Ferrari's, Porche's up the wazoo in the shop, but I needed a place that could repair the spoilers and do it right.

Thanks for the feedback all!!

I've decided simply working overtime won't cut it. So I applied for a promotion, had the interview this morning, don't want to count chickens but I'm pretty confident. woot

I'm surprised nobody said 'just do it yourself' but I can understand how unprofessional black spots can look as bad or worse than little white specks. I just ran out again to look...it's really barely noticeable aside from a couple good dings in the roof ahead of the moonroof, even those required a bit of searching. I'll remember every time I wash it though.

I was travelling west on Derry, I approached Walker's line where a stream of left turning traffic was pulled out deep into the intersection causing me to make a very quick sharp left turn. I caught a glimpse of an orange sign on the corner with my peripheral, but couldn't read it since I was busy negotiating the turn, by then I was already on gravel. I thought 'this can't last for long'... by the time I reached the first available crossroad I had been passed by a dozen Luke Dukes, and an uncle jesse.

In a discussion, a colleague said...in road repair construction they don't use rollers anymore, instead they tar and gravel the road and let traffic settle it. That is an outrage. My ride was also covered covered covered in tar which came off very easily thanks to...well, Chris, whose spring detailing job is still protecting my paint beneath my own weekly waxings.

Thanks for the EA related advice guys. Noted.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have any tricks to make the bmw touch-up paint user friendly? I've only had success painting the face of a CD_ROM.

Glad to see things are coming together for you dw1.

still :D .

I use an Autovisuals touch-up stick from a group buy on E46Fan, bought it a couple of months ago for $20 (ok Jeremy, this is where you jump in and flame me for overpaying LOL!) ... works by dabbing the stone chip until the depth of the chip is filled in with paint, I imagine you would use the same technique with the OEM touch-up paint, just don't over-do the amount of paint and create a 'bubble' ...
