Since we're all bored, ok since I'm bored lets all have some fun and games. Here's a riddle for people that are bored to try and solve woot

====
You are given 5 bags. There are 10 beads in each of the bags. In four of the bags, the beads each weigh 10 kilograms. In the remaining bag, each bead weighs only 9 kilograms. All the bags and beads look identical. You must find out which bag has the lighter beads. The problem is that all the bags look identical and all the beads look identical. You can use a scale, but it has to be a single-tray scale, not a two-tray balance scale. Also, you may use the scale only once. How can you find out which bag has the lighter beads?

Put one bag on the scales. If it weights 90kilos, it's the ONE. If it weights more, you loose. 1 in 5 chance.... I'd risk it.

In other words, I give up :crying: Now go ahead and tell me this is a question for 5th grade

lightest bag is 10% less in weight than the other 4
4 bags weighting 100 kg each for a total of 400kg
5th bag weights 90kg
Total weight is 490kg

I would use the lug nut wrench as a pivot point, use my ropes in the trunk,
tie 2 bags and lift at middle point of rope. If one bag is off balance, we found the light one.

That's easy.

Put all of the bags on the scale at once (thus fulfilling the one use rule), then when you are taking them off the scale, take them off one at a time. When the scale moves down only 90kg as opposed to 100, you have found the lighter bag.

You can then proceed to use the heavier bags to beat the cheap-a$$ owner of the scale who will only let you use his scale only once. He should be more accomodating to someone who can single-handedly carry around 490kg of beads!! :D

I must agree with you that this is a solution but it's not the correct solution. I guess the person that came up with this question should have added that "you cannot remove the bags one at a time" heheh.

Just grab one of the bags throw it in the owners face and ask him " is that too heavy for you or do you want a lighter one"..when he falls to the ground thats when you know that was the heavier one then call it a day.......
just j/k...heheheheheh :blaaaa:

very close ed....but you spent too much time in law school and not enough time studying for the SATs like my american ass did

answer.

Label the bags from 1 to 5. Take 1 bead out of Bag 1, and label it 1. Take 2 beads out of Bag 2, and label them both with a 2. Take 3 beads out of Bag 3, and label each with a 3. Continue this pattern with Bags 4 and 5. Put these 15 beads on the tray of the scale.
If all 15 weighed 10 kilograms, the scale would register 150 kilograms. But since one or more of the beads weighs only 9 kilograms, the scale will register less than 150. Subtract the number on the scale from 150. Your answer will tell you the number of the bag with the lighter beads. (If the scale registers 148, it’s bag #2. If the scale registers 145, it’s bag #5.)

That's way too much work. As counsel I would say that my answer is simple and perfectly admissable under the original rules of the question. I would appeal anything less than full marks given for my answer. :D

Would you fight that? :D

Ok here's one,

You arrived at an ancient castle in the middle winter in northern scotland. When you enter the castle, you're standing on the main floor. You see 3 levers. The levers can go up or down only (this means on and off for people who don't know :wink2: ). On the 2nd floor there are 3 rooms. Each room has a huge window which can be opened by one of the 3 levers on the main floor. Each room has a steel door that is shut when you walk into the room so that you can't see the levers on the main floor. Now if you can only go upstairs ONCE, how can you determine which lever opens which room's window :nerd:

NO YOU CANNOT GO OUTSIDE TO SEE IF THE WINDOW IS OPEN BECAUSE YOU'LL FREEZE TO DEATH!

The Windows are closed initially :)

Are the windows opened or closed initially?

If all are closed, then open 1 window, allowing cold winter breeze in. Open 2nd window and go upstairs.

You will have:
1 cold room with window closed (1st switch)
1 cold room with window open (2nd switch)
1 room temperature room (remaining switch)

Otherwise, break off one lever and jam one lever 1/2 way. Open the last lever.

1 room closed (and can never be opened) (1st switch)
1 steel door 1/2 closed (2nd switch)
1 room open (remaining switch)
