if you just keep everything together in one of these, you won't need the checklist...

On track days helmets are required, where can we get them if we don't own our own? To rent and to borrow...

I have an older helmet you can borrow if you like.

Need to get a good torque wrench, what should I get.
17mm socket right?
Also, on my RS110s the lugs sit really deep in the wheel, so I would prefer a set up that will not scratch it. Thats a big issue.
Thanks.

17mm. just get a deep socket. the LM's are very deep as well, but no issues with the socket.

Sears
Canadian Tire
??????
How deep should the socket be?
Also, don't know the name, but some ppl use a tool that is like an X to get the lugs on and off, is that any good? Or should I just stick to a good wrench for taking wheels on and off?
88ft/lbs for our wheels?

just go to sears or CT and get a standard deep 17mm socket. there's short and long so you can't miss it.
the cross wrench will make stubborn lugs easier to remove and get on and off because you can spin it. almost as fast as my impact wrench...Canadian tire sells them. highly recommend everyone have one of these!

A 1/2" canadian torque wrench + deep socket would be good enough.
Princess Auto also has a 1/2" tourque wrench for about $40, often on sale for $25 (and deep sockets). Not as nice as a Snap-on, but gets the job done. I think on par with the equivalent CT version.
Just get one with your target torque setting in the middle of the scale (so 150 to 180 lbft max setting).
If you are a real baller, then you should also get a torque meter to calibrate the wrench on a regular basis....Calibrator (http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?P65=&tool=all&item_ID=66768&group_ID=2903&store=canada&dir=catalog)

I have a really nice torque wrench from Precision Instruments. It's a split beam wrench that never needs resetting to zero and can take alot of abuse.
Precision Instruments makes the Snap-On stuff.

I can't find a cross wrench with a 17mm end.
CT does not carry them.
Any ideas?

they should, that's standard size. I got mine there. They come in a collapsible cross with different sizes.

I didn't see any collapsible ones. I check another CT on Leslie.

The one at Leslie and Sheppard has them. I bought mine there. It's at the corner where they put jacks, jack stands, rim paint, etc., right behind the car detailing stuff.

Might be a bit far, but I just saw these today at Walmart and CTC out in Etobicoke. Walmart, at 427 and Queensway. CTC at Dundas, W of Kipling. CTC had both cross and collapsible. Walmart had just the cross.

I found a collapsible cross wrench at CT on Yong and Steeles last fall. It has three bolt sizes and one flat head / spike. Kinda makes me nervous that the pointy head is pointing at me cz the correct head for the car is on the opposite end :S

+ set of mechanic gloves
+ rags to use to clean inside of rims/any other dirty crap like grass/mud if you went sideways into the wet muddy grass outside a corner on Cayuga :p
+ wooden blocks to place around wheels when the other side is jacked up to avoid having to use the handbrake or keeping the car in gear when allowing your baby to bring oil pressure down

lol no kidding!!! I should add: "pit crew including 951kid, carboy88, and yorgi" but I don't expect such a wealth of experience to be available every time I want to go tracking...man I learned so much about my car and the hard work that goes into tracking that I just developed so much more respect for you guys...and the mechanics behind M3s in general!!!! :yourmyido :yourmyido :yourmyido

Great post!
Just wondering though, where do you guys keep all this stuff? I'm going to Cayuga tomorrow for opening lapping (first timer) and really don't want all that extra weight in my trunk and stuff flying around...is there a place where we can put it?

I have all my trackday stuff in a lockable heavy duty tote. Something like this: Rubermaid 30L Action Packer (http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/AutoAccessories/CarOrganizers/PRD~0403050P/Rubbermaid%252BAction%252BPackers%25252C%252B30.3% 252BL.jsp?locale=en).
I leave it on the side of the track and if you are at a day with questionable looking peeps then add a pad lock if you want. They also make larger versions of these totes.
You should take EVERYTHING out of your car before going on track. Stuff banging around is a major distraction and it can even become a deadly missile if you go off track.
