Hey guys,
I need to change my brake pads soon. Any recommedations on where to go? Any one know how much cross avenue costs. I just needs the pads change cuz it getting pretty low and I don't wanna ruin the rotors, it'll get eevn more expensive.
Get the hawks brake pads. I heard it's 90% free from brake dust. :)

I got Axxis Deluxe Plus pads fronts & rears for something like US$85 shipped from zeckhausen.com. Pads from the dealer is a ripoff. Check out eliteauto.ca if you want to get it locally, I think they are in Scarborough.

I got a set Fr\RR Axxis Deluxe + from Raymond at www.eliteauto.ca for $72 Fr and $49 Rear I love them...no brake dust at all on my cross spokes compared to OEM Replacing brake pads is easy here's a DIY

Quickid had them before me and recommended...
Go for the best one guys. It's not worth to save a few buck on brake pads. :)

My experience is only with Axxis Deluxe Plus. You have to bed them in properly to improve the initial bite. I'm running them with Zimmerman cross-drilled rotors and I love the way they stop the car. My current setup performs just as well or better than OEMs now. However, It didn't have the initial bite as OEMs during the break-in period.
As for the dust, I no longer have to clean my rims in between my regular carwash.
But I didn't heard good thing about eliteauto!
Well, it was Surk01 that bought pads from them and as far I know, he was satisfied with the transaction.

Absolutely. I bought some aftermarkets from NAPA/UAP. I have to press down on the brake more than the OEM pads. And lots of brake dust too. Pain in the arse for cross spoke rims.
I'll have to try these Axxxis pads next. And they' recheaper too then the other stuff.

I agree but "best" doesn't mean it has to be the most expensive!!! Also, there is no such thing as the "best" one because it depends on your particular application.

I had NO problems with buying them from Elite... I installed them myself in my driveway (easy)
Quickid is correct...Bed them in properly and you will have no probs and OEM bite and performance (without the dust!) I'd buy them again :)

Darn,
For brake pads and rotors (front and rear), cost is $688.50 in parts
But the brake service special cost the same for parts and labour.
Go figure.
Where do you guys get rotors and pads from. I want to do the install myself.

Funny no street address on their web site.
They got Brembo rotors and PDR brake pads.
Should be good enough for street use and better than OEM?

Yeah but bedding the brakes is your responsibility. Shops will not usually do that for you before they send you off. Read the link and you'll know what I mean.

Deluxe Plus is what I'm using.
I'm using Axxis Deluxe plus also...Metal masters are good also, but harder on rotor life...
**VERY IMPORTANT** to bed the pads in as per Zeckhausen link..otherwise poor performance and squeel..

I dealt with eliteAuto in Scarborough when my 2002 TopazBlue 325ci needed new rotors and pads. I ended up getting Brembo cross-drilled and PBR metal masters. Worked as good as or better than OEM. Absolutely LOVED :teeth: the fact that my wheels no longer needed cleaning as often with OEM. I believe the price that I got was pretty decent too... better than what the stealership was asking for with OEM parts.
My only complaint about elite is that it was apparent that they used an impact wrench on my OEM 44s... could see on a couple of the wheels that they missed! not major but pissed me off nonetheless.
Otherwise I'd go back... get them to hand torque the bolts!

Hey Dutty, Eric as telling me about those x-drilled non BBK brembos to fit our lowly 323's. Sounded like a good price.
In addition to them using impact wrench on your 44's, Cross Avenue does hand torque.
They did on Audiophilia's & jerseys rim swap & Ian's brake pad change. I can't stress enough how good Sam & his boys are which is why we brought them on board to take care of whips without having to deal with carelessness and lack of inexperienced techs.

front Axxis and rear OEM feels weird...
BlueSky,
When you are mixing front and rear pads, the ones that grip earlier & stronger (ie better initial bite) should be in front.
My hunch is that OEM pads have a better initial bite than Axxis and they "grab" rotors BEFORE the front Axxis start to work. Consequently giving you that weird feeling.

Not sure how much the dealer charges as I don't go there much. Independent shops should charge around $100 for the labour. You can get pads for all corners for probably $125 and maybe $375 for rotors. If it's not in that neighbourhood then you're paying too much.

From all the posts that I in this thread, Ellite Auto is the place to get the PBR Pads and Cross Auto is the place to get them installed?
Another newbie question, how do you know you need to have the break pad changed? Lately, the breaks feels soft and I noticed I need to press a little bit more than usual. Is this a warning sign that I need to have the pads changed?
If you inspect them but pulling the wheels and checking how much pad thickness left... the other way (but not recommended) is wait til your brakes pad wear light comes on in dash.... Pads usually last 40-50+k depending on type and driving style... PBR's are

Using a torque wrench is not a problem if they attached torque sticks to them to limit the torque. If not, then I would be pissed too.

Here's how it goes for me. I was talking to a couple BMW mechanic friends of mine, and I myself have been fixing cars for years as I grew up with Mechanics my whole life.
These cars are designed for the autobahn. We have no road like this in the GTA. I have had my 323i for the past 2 years and put 80k on it. (love driving my BM!) I have changed about 3 sets of front pads, 2 sets of rear, and one set of rotors.) I have never seen rotors wear down as much as I have with out a single freaking warp!!!) I felt no difference in the awesome breaking when I changed the rotors. I was impressed. My buddy just bought a 330ci and sold his porsche after driving my little baby. He said the braking is almost as good as the porsche.
BMW boasts "ORIGINAL BMW PARTS" in motor sports.
If you go to Metrics for the OEM pads they are not the same as the BMW one even though they are made at the same manufacturer.
Screw the brake dust. I inspect my pads, and rotors very closely everytime I do my brakes and I am amazed how well everything looks. The car has 180k on it now and still performs like brand new.
I've heard and seen after market pads sqeak and make noise.
As for BBK's. Thats for the track. Those pads don't work until the brakes heat up thats why they are for extreme conditions. They look good though!!!!!
Anyways this is just my opinion from someone who uses the car and fixes it.
Thanks for your time!!!!!
later boyz.
Brake dust is the worstest in BMW. When I change my brake and rotor, I want to use hawks brake pads. Maybe I should.
You were saying the OEM and BMW rotor have different measurement?
