so....the first shipment of smart cars arrived in Canada today...and Mercedes was distributing them to their customers. I actually saw one on the road today...it's weird seeing them in Canada...especially since our streets are full of SUVs and mini-vans.
so what does everyone think about them? I wonder if these cars are good for the winter. I would consider driving one of these around and storing my car in the winter...but the car looks too girly IMO. Plus, i'm not sure how powerful they are and if they can plough through the snow.

Yeah..i'd doubt they would work well through our winters, especially with all of those SUVs driving fast by you. They'd probably get pushed around by the high winds too. :thumbsdow Aren't the electric cars more enviro-friendly? Is all of the press just because its a Merc?

The car is too girly? ahem you're a girl :)
I don't think I can drive one of those. Haven't check out the performance number on those things but seems like even a toyota tercel can beat it :D

agree...probably any car can beat it on the road.
as for cars, I absolutely hate girly cars. No chick cars for me...my only requirement is that they have to be fast and sexy. Plus, my cars gotta look masculine cause it's a "guy".

I saw 3 by the Mavis Merc dealership today. I thought to myself those r the cars dieselG. was reffering to. Then I browsed thru an article on the Sun..0-100 in 19.8 (?)secs. They're 40 horses, 3 styles to choose from, i think theyre under 20gs ( they better be). Can u say GIDDIYAP!!!

I saw the exact same article as you did and yes they're only 40 horses ... 0-100 in 20 sec ... worse than a tercel ... :thumbsdow

It's a great second car to drive to work. You can't go fast in the morning with Toronto's traffic anyway.
A litre of gas will give you more than 20km. Save a lot of dough in the long run especially when crude oil is trading at $50US/barrel.
Obviously when buying a car like that being environmentally friendly and energy conservation is the focus instead of horsepower. I admire people who have a sense of obligation to future others.
Mercedes :thumbsdow If I want a small car, I'll get a Mini Copper S.

agreed. and if you're a city dweller, short of a vespa, plain old public transportation, or walking, this is pretty good option for morning commute.

There is a silver grey cab Smart with a plate "GET SMART" driving up and down on Bayview (between Eglinton and Davisville)
those thing are expensive toys....as parking space restriction is not an issue in this SUV/Mini-van infested town called Toronto?

The car is too fad-ish and will be dated in a year. Not very convienent in terms of hauling stuff/people and would probably be flipped when hit by any other car. And practically useless when you want to go on the open road (5 hour trip to MOntreal in that shoe box?) Heck, even sitting in rush hour traffic for hours in something so small would get confiining.
I'd vote for the mini-cooper for a small car with some performance when needed.
I appreciate the enviromental concerns but we should be pushing for the development of those Hydrogen Cars. Hydrogen= MORE power and 100% clean burn. There'a already a hydrogen powered 7 series out too. :D

Last year, this used to be my ride to work vehicle. Free parking, free workout and no gym membership

Truck? If it got rear ended by an SUV it will fly off the highway hehe. I think the mini should be heavier than that. I wonder what is the gas consumption is on the mini. If it's good I wouldn't mind getting a mini for everyday work driving. woot

My wife and I ordered one and we are on the waiting list. We should be expecting ours in Spring 2005.
Can't wait! Nice and compact but no power! It will be mostly for my wife to commute.

I thought the "S" model had some decent power for the Mini. Congrats...too bad about the wait but then again...you'd rather not drive it through the winter. :D
