There we were on the way to BMW Autohaus excited to pick up our M3. We were at 401 express lane going to collector lane around 4:00 pm today when a big truck carrying waste bins hit our 330 from the rear TWICE! He was merging on our lane and BAM! He hit us! He didn't even stop, we have to go to the shoulder, drive up beside and ask him to pull over. Eric and I were so upset! We got hit on the rear driver side. There were dents on the rear trunk and bumper, scratches on the lights too. Eric and I were arguing with the truck driver. He kept insisting that it wasn't his fault. Good thing an OPP showed up and told the truck driver that it was a text book case situation, he is the one that hit us at the back so its his fault for driving too close and its even bad for him coz he has to be at a farther distance considering that he is driving a freaking truck! We had to go to the Collision centre to report the accident. Imagine, we are just on our way to trade-in the 330 and it got into an accident.

Its a good thing that the sales guy and his manager at Autohaus are very nice and accommodating. We really thought that we will not be able to pick up the M3 and what's worst is that they will not accept the 330 anymore. He waited for us. We were suppose to be there around 4:30 pm and we didn't get there until past 7:00 PM. They took the damaged 330 and gave us the M3. We are so relieved and very happy that we finally got the M3.
That is our very stressful, upsetting and exciting day !

Whoh! I hope you & Eric are ok though. That's crazy. Toronto has got some of the most fcuked up drivers in the continent. Fortunately Autohaus took the car still, and all. That only means, no matter what, the M3 was meant to be.

It's good your safe and injured-free. And congrats on the m3. looking forward to seeing you guys tomorrow.

Oh my god! Glad you are okay.

It's 6:11 a.m., and I'm sitting here just shaking my head. So sorry our two friends had to go through that.

Very happy you got your M3. What a salesguy you have. Although, I guess Autohaus legally own your car...and had to take it.

A day you'll be able to tell your grandchildren...as Chris says, the M3 was meant to be.

Driven all over the world, including 3rd World. Toronto drivers are the absolute worst. 1 in 4 has no insurance and many thousands either have a fake license or none at all!

I drive in NYC at least 4 times a year. I completely disagree. For a start, they know what a passing lane is for. Moreover, Manhattan itarffic cops know how to keep traffic moving. They even kept Central Park South open during the Marathon...unbelievable!

Glad it all worked out and you guys weren't hurt.

Enjoy the M3 now and start modding :-)

Man, situation like that makes you wish you have a baseball bat in the trunk to use on the guy's head. Oh man don't you feel like ripping the guy a new a$$hole at that moment. You baby your cars for years and then one day bam wham. Just glad to know that you two are ok.

Thank you all for your concern. It means a lot to us. I know its very sad they way my old 330 ended. I mean we stripped it down to stock and then to have gone thru some damage like that before we give it up. :crying:

The accident was unfortunate but I'm glad that we came out ok. Emotionally not but physically ok. I was so upset with the truck driver. There we were in the middle of rush hour at 401 and we were arguing at him. It boggles my mind how he could not accept the fact that it was his fault. He even kept arguing with the OPP. The OPP almost charged him at the spot ! Oooooh. just thinking about it right now still makes me upset.

Venting is good and healthy. The driver was in denial thus his arguing with you, Eric and OPP. You sacrifice something good (330ci) for something better (m3). A hell of lot better. :yourmyido

Don't stress about it. It's done already.

Now as for the M3....holy cow! Its awesome!!!!! Eric and I were up late last night just admiring the car and already modding it. I drove it home last night and its unbelievable. It looks almost the same as my 330 but the drive / handling / response is very different. For one thing, I have to get used to 6 gears instead of 5. Very responsive car.. just a slight tap and off he goes! The brake just grabs. one word: AWESOME! woot

Good thing both of you are ok. Cars can be replace but human life can't...at the end of the day it's a car.

Good thing chasing that mofo down. next time I get rear-ended, hunting the mofo down. Police was useless in my last accident (got rear ended, the 2 pumps back way and floored away as he saw me and gorilla buddy walking towards them).

new m3 is a nice distraction from the bad event.

Nope, we are both off work today. We woke up around 8:00 am (that alone is a surprise - we never wake up that early). Must be the excitement of opening the door to the garage and seeing an M3 parked inside. woot
I just finished cleaning the interior of the car. I detailed it like you wouldn't believe. I told Eric, he can't put his shoes inside anymore. Eric is busy installing some of the mods that we remove from the 330. Still not finish though. We still have to clean the exterior and engine bay. Gotta keep the baby clean and up to par.

Been away from the board for over 2 days....I'm so lost :confused2

Here is the actual damage taken at the collision reporting center.

Should I get insurance to pay for it all zero deductable because it was not my fault AND risk higher payments next year because of the claim or should I just pay for it out of pocket ? :crying:

Eric,

Unless you gave specific instructions at the collision reporting center NOT to inform your insurance company (they would do that if you ask them), their normal procedure otherwise is to inform insurance.

You can try calling the collision reporting center now and ask them if they already reported or not; if they did, unfortunately there is not much choice here but to report it yourself (they will know anyway).

The "good" news is that a hit from the rear is 100% fault of the other driver, as per insurance accident rules. Depending on your insurance company and if this is the only accident in the last 6 years, your premiums MAY not increase because of it.

AlexM520

M333ee

Alex,

Yes the accident was 100% the other drivers fault and I did already inform the ins. co. because that was the day I was picking up the M3.

My ins. co. said that they will wave all deductable and make the other co. pay for the damages. We have had zero claims so I wanted to keep that perfect record. Now I guess there will be 1 claim. :crying: At least is wasn't our fault.

Glad to see you ok and endup get the new car and for sure not pay the damage from your own pocket. It is not your fault why you need to pay for it? Go through the insurance for sure, no matter you have claim record or not it still won't be worst than put from your own pocket as I see from the pic the damage can easily be more than 2G. Also the most important thing is make that crazy truck driver get bad record! BTW, did he get a ticket?

You know, when I on my way to trade in my Civic Si for my Prelude 7yr ago, it happened to me too! A untie drove a MB C head on hit my Civic on my lane! And she insist not to get out of her car and hand in ne info such as insurance or driver lincence. Then I call the cop and 5 min later her husband arrive and said he going to buy out my car(not pay the damage) and hand in $500! WTF!#%^^$@# are those moron! he said a Civic should not more than $300!
