Oil visc choice?

I been doing some search here on what oil to use and came back with these results, Mobile 5w30 during winter 10w30 during summer, also Castrol 5w30 winter and 10W30 summer. Also its been mentioned that Mobile 10w40 is being used. What oil you guys reccomend for 2002 330 and how much fits during oil change?

A number of us here use 0W-40 Mobil 1.

If you go to a dealership they use Castrol 5W-30 all around for oil changes/service and top-ups.

What's the difference between 5w30 and 0w40? I always used 5w30 during winter and 10w30 during summer on subaru and most of the members as well. Can I use the same routine on BMW or 0w40 better for whole season? Also should we use differen visc during different seasons? Also the manual never mentions 0w40, that's why I am sking. i will be chaning oil every 7-8k anyways.

Agreed Mobile 0w-40 is good stuff. Standard oil on AMG models also.

In order to comply with BMW's warranty, the oil you use must be BMW long life rated (BMW LL-98 or LL-01). The only two oils available to us in NA are the German made Castrol 5w30 (available from the dealer) and Mobil 1 0w40 (available from Parts Source). It's probably a good idea to stick to them if your engine is still under warranty.

There has been a few group buys for the Mobil 1 0w40 direct from the supplier (Noco), so keep an eye out for those.

If you are out of warranty, then what you are doing now with thinner in winter and thicker in summer is probably a better idea than the 0w40 all year round, just make sure the oil you choose has an ACEA A3 rating.

How much is the oil from the dealer, if I wanted to buy it? More expensive then 0w40?

Did some research on boboil guy site and came up with Mobil1 0w40 is good oil for whole season for newer BMWs. I guess I will be using that. I assume it's cheaper to change oil by myself which I will be doing. Whole cost will be around 75$ bucks. 2 4l oils=60$ and 15 filter? How much dealer chargers?
Also is that the best choice of oil? Sorry for all these questions, no experience with BMW what so ever.

Never heard any negative reviews about Mobil 1 0w-40 oil.

Went for my first oil change, around 10k, at BMW Toronto. Cost me $100.00 plus taxes.

Next time , the only thing I would request is to have them drain the oil from the oil pan under the car as opposed to using an oil pump to pump out the oil from the top. They said all the hoists were in use.

I had an appointment else where, time was running out, so was unable to wait for a free hoist.

They washed my car afterwards. Made it to my appointment just in time.

Oil service and inspect light can be reset yourself:

Hold the left odometer reset button while turning the key to position 1 (accessory) Keep holding the button for about 5 seconds until display shows OIL SERVICE or INSPECTION with RESET or RE flash while the display flashes press the left button once quickly, if done correctly END SIA should display for a moment. Done.

I guess that was with tax. Did they reset your oil indicator?

$100.00 plus taxes, so, $115.00 for an oil and filter change and external wash. Oil indicator not reset.

Your service indicator only gets reset for "Scheduled Maintenance". I get mine changed at mid intervals too and check for top up once a month - I typically use a liter every 10-12,000 KM's.

Correct. Your oil consumption is similar to mine.

Mine burns too around 0.4 litre in 5 000 km. I think thats ok
