So after being a loyal Zaino fan for a few years, I decided to venture out and see what the competition has to offer. I also decided to take the opportunity to try using machine application instead of by hand.
I spent Sunday detailing 3 cars using 2 different systems. See if you can guess which is which. I Dawn'd and clay barred both cars to start from fresh.
System 1:
Zaino Z1, Z2, Z5 applied by hand.

System 2:
Poorboy's SSR 2.5, SSR 1.0, Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze, Menzerna FMJ applied by Porter Cable 7424

Looks good. The car in the top pic looks darker, maybe a darker car? Anyway, how long did you spend on each car, from start to finish, with each set of products? Was one combo faster than the other?
Great Job!

I think the sedan looks better than the cab but it's a little unfair. The sedan is newer and the shot of the car fills the frame more.
i like car #1, but then again shouldn't u test it out on a car thats the same colour?

It took literally all day Sunday (about 10am-7:30pm, an hour for lunch). But I also did the interior of each car.
Car #1 is black sapphire metallic.
Car #2 is orient blue metallic.
Yeah, it's hard to tell in the pics. Here's a hint, I used the same product on Car #1 as this car which is blue.
I used Menzerna on my blue car and Zaino on the black car.
The difference is hard to notice in the pictures with respect to depth of shine because it was starting to get dark by the time I finished. The Menzerna was pretty good, but I actually see more "depth" in Zaino.
The other car I did with Zaino.

Well doing multiple cars at the same time, it was difficult to say how long it would take for each. I ran out of ZFX, so the Zaino had to be applied the old school way and it takes about an hour or so to dry. So while waiting for each layer to dry, I worked with the orbital to do the Poorboy's or the Menzerna.
The Poorboy's did a good job with my swirl marks (which I got form my mother-in-law placing boxes on my trunk  ) and the Menzerna was very easy to apply, especially with the orbital. However, the vibration of using a power tool to apply wax was somewhat tiring. I found Zaino to be much easier (on my body) to apply, and with multiple coats, the shine is still unbeatable. The problem with Zaino is the wait time between layers. The Menzerna, you just apply once and you can buff off right away. I tried multiple layers of Menzerna, but it doesn't improve the shine.
The other advantage of Menzerna is that at least you can see where you applied the wax. Zaino is applied so thin, so wonder if there is any wax on there at all so you can miss spots (not a big deal if you do multiple layers though).
They are both good products. If I'm in a rush, I'll go with the Menzerna. For shine, I still have to stick with Zaino.

They both look good, but i think you should try it on a Jet Black cab , comparing a seden to a cab is not fair for the seden , by the way I know where can get a Jet Black to try out :D

Great work Regin8r!
At first use, the PC is quite tiring, but after more experience with a couple of cars, 5+ hours working the PC at speed 6 no longer bothers me.
If you plan on buying a PC, remember to use the right counterweight for the size of your pads, and try removing the side-handle to reduce the vibration. When applying sealants/glazes, you should really be working the PC @2-4; where the vibration is quite minimal, to me anyways.
I actually like long lasting sealants such as Collinite 845 on my parents and relative's cars. They don't look that good, but looks aren't what they are looking for. On my personal drive, the products used usually aim for better looks, sacrificing durability. Detailing is like therapy, therefore, long lasting stuff shuch as Zaino aren't for me. I personally need to spit-shine using carnauba based products to satisfy my requirements. (Experimenting with different combos every other week also defeats the purpose of using durable products.
Here is a black I did last week:
Disclaimer, only a spray sealant (Aquawax), no polishing, but minimum swirls as it was never washed, only touchless washes. Finished LONG after the sun set.

A while back: Same spray wax/sealant
With some good products, you can get quite awsome results. This wax takes 20minutes to do a car TWICE!

Sorry for my crappy shots. It seems after every black car, I always get overcast'ish weather... :p

Try Klasse too, its another synthetic polymer.

The Klasse line is also very good stuff. Upon being layered, SG's durability is very good. Some people on autopia.org have got 5+ layers. However, upon stating that, their application takes a little getting used to, and maybe somewhat hard for to remove (weather dependent). It's also quite a waste to use via machine, and is recommended to apply by hand. (Therefore requires more effort and time)
IMO:
For durability: (1 being the best)
1) Zaino (Multiple layers) // Klasse SG
2) Collinite 845
Ease of use, efficient application:
1) Collinite 845
2) Zaino // Klasse SG
Klasse's formula has been somewhat changed for the worse (not a big difference, but a bit) since it is now VOC compliant.
Jeff's Werkatt's line is the new kid on the block, that has proven to be a very user-friendly, durable line from what I hear.

All my info is from Autopia.org, and my own personal experience. YMMV

Hi BMWWW :)
As BMWWW mentioned, Jeffs products are esentially a re-formulation of the Klasse line of products. I've been using them with good success recently. Durabilty of AJ is in the 5-6 months range, and what's nice is the spray version (trigger) seems to get the same durability.
Cheers.

Gabe, I'm interested in trying this Aqua wax. Who's the distributor?
There was a day when I had time to wax my car twice a week, now my car is lucky if it gets washed in 2 weeks.

I get mine from a local bodyshop, that has to special order it.
I wanted to get a gallon size, but it wasn't available at that time.
I got the 16oz version for $11.35 inclusive.
Chris, if you want, I can probably get some for you when we meet, or let you try it out. I'm on my second bottle and it's good stuff imo.
The contact info for the stuff:
Richmond Hill Auto Parts
Just ask for a special order of "Duragloss Aquawax"
905-884-8169
A website, don't know how often it's updated, run by a couple of old-schooler's: www.richmondhillautoparts.com
The first guy didnt' know what on earth I was talking about, talked to their parts manager, confirmed they were a distributor of Duragloss, got it ordered. Took ~1 week, don't remember exactly.
Duragloss' toronto distributor:
Base Automotive
416-752-9263
It's a nice product with durability into the 2+ month range (according the the guys on autopia)
Hope this helps!
