Where do you guys get your brakes checked and installed?
I'm looking for crossdrilled rotors/calipers that would fit inside my 16" winters (dont want to change winter tires so soon)
Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Jeff,
Cross Avenue is good but way out in Oakville for you.
Is Speedstars still around or have they closed down now?

I'm thinking of going to Speedstar to do my brakes. Would you recommend them?
Do you know if I can bring my own brake pads for them to install? Also, ballpark figure, how much would it cost me to have my brake pads changed?
Thanks!

I had many big things installed at Speedstars and no problem at all...
If you bring your own parts... they will just charge u labour. the rate is around $75/hr... I forgot cuz I never paid full rate... :blaaaa:

Better at Cross if you like the drive plus they're our sponsor. Be nice to support the businesses that keep the site running. Also same deal, bring your parts in, they'll charge you only labour. Barely.
Let them know you're from E46toronto though and Anthony or Chris sent you. ;)

$75 is a lot for a place like Speedstar I think.

you can always try checking them yourself. there's a few good DIY around...
if you are just replacing pads, that is really easy. rotors is bit more work...

I'm also thinking of changing the pads myself. I read the DYI on e46fanatics and it looks easy. Just wondering if I need to get a proper jack to lift the car up or I can just use the one that comes with the car?
Also, would you know the torque setting that I should set on my torgue wrench when I put the bolts on?
Thanks very much,
B

I would NEVER do work on the car with the car jack, that thing is a POS. You must use proper jack stands if you are doing any work lifting the car. Go to crappy tire and at least get a 2.5 ton jack and stands. Shouldn't cost you more than $100.
new BMW torque specs are 85ft/lb
