I was at Mosport with 951kid on Monday... I definetely need to get more track time in... I was itching to try it... but was defeintely lacking track experience and I'd probably end up in the trees or into a marshalling station.

Bootin around as a passenger in a done up to the titties Lexus IS250 and Andy the driver topped out at about 221kmh. Then again.. this was not a street legal Lex.

No Prob Chris;

it's a lexus is300 thats been de-stroked to 2.8 ltr to run Speed World Challenge - but yeah, it's a quick car with a lot of development.

Glad you had a good time man - come out lapping with all of us next yr!

I was at Mosport on Monday as well getting my last lapping fix in for the season. It was a great day wailing down the back straight with the fall colors on both sides. I can manage to top 220kmh on the back straight if I hold off braking until I hit the crest before turn 8...unfortunately my stock suspension and stock tires were no match in the corners for the various race cars that were there...it was amazing how fast that Lexus as well as assorted BMW and Porsche racecars caught up in the corners! Unfortunately by the afternoon my left front tire was so worn down the cords were starting to show, so I had to pass on the last session.

On a side note, last season and the beginning of this season I had Carbotech XP9's all around which I was pretty happy with. The front's were shot by August and I couldn't get another set of Carbotech's in time for a BMW track school so I got some Hawk HT-10's to replace them. I like them even better than the Carbotechs and the balance with the XP9's on the back is really nice.

the car would have been lapping more if it wasnt for that.

just been waiting to get the parts, and for some time to get it back together. plan on doing another race school in april if $ permits.

i'm rusty after being away from it this long, but i'll be back.

944 turbo.

hahahahaha

but you're right. the lexus leaves a lot to be desired in terms of excitement. it's like driving a lazy boy couch down the road.

they should be quite comparable to the XP9's. how did you find the torque and modulation compared to the XP9's? I find the XP9's incredibly easy to modulate.

I love this track, I was there on Friday and the weather was perfect. Since there were less than 20 cars that showed up I got tons of laps in, I went through almost 2 tanks of gas. The only thing to complain about was the price of gas at the track, Sunoco 94 was $1.60 a litre

They don't have 100 octane at the track?

BMWHP

They have Sunoco 94 octane and race fuel (can't remember the exact octane but it was 100 or more) at the track. The 94 was $1.60 a litre and the race fuel was over $3.00 a litre.

951kid

they have 104 and 110 i believe as well as 94. but yeah, you pay a premium.

now if someone came out with switchable software to take into consideration 110 fuel, that could be worth something....it's already available by some tuners.

When I talked to Hagen Hohn about getting another set of XP9's he said that the Hawk HT-10's were identical to the XP9's. Unfortunately he didn't have either available. I finally ended up getting the HT-10's from Raven Performance and they said that the HT-10's were full race pads and not even in the same class as the XP9's?? My impression was that the HT-10's had a harder initial bite than the XP9's and required less pedal travel before the anti-lock kicks in. I guess that translates to more torque and slightly less modulation than the XP9's which is good for me since I prefer as little brake pedal travel as possible because of the way I heel-toe and the limitations of my old ankle :)

sounds good. I would never go back to Raven ever again. I don't know how those people build race cars...

Hi Leadfoot,

HT-10 is normally considered an excellent endurance pad (ie., 3 - 6hours events ... that's what they probably meant by "...full race pads..") but is also good for shorter sprints.

Keep an eye on the rotors, they are a bit harder than other pads but do tend to last longer.

Generally, it is not recommended to run race pads with street tires as they can be locked up pretty quickly. Consider getting r-compounds next season.

I don't see why not, but unless the software is taking it into consideration, I wouldn't think we would see performance gains.

it's funny you mention that. For the porsche 944 turbo, and many turbo porsche tuners - they offer software for a variety of different fuel octanes on the same software package.

APR even offered it for the 1.8T motor - you could switch between different modes [valet, race, street] and i believe different octane settings by using the cruise control lever - pretty fly stuff.

Watching the cars (that porsche drool ) was amazing.

Thanks Christyles and special thanks to Dipal for getting me a ride with Andy. Not only does the guy have nice eyes, but he can drive too!!! I was very very "happy" after that ride. ;)

I dind't know where to go to do nice pics as it was my first time actually at the track. The only other time was during Bimmercruise but I was working down at the parking lot. And yes the view was nice with the changing of the colors.

that fencing was put up right before ALMS weekend and hasnt been taken down. That's sad. The inside of turn 2 is a great place to watch cars but that fence just kills it.

The picture of the M1 in my avatar was taken from that spot.
