Well I think its time I get a track kit going. I already have a big Rubbermaid bin. I have a jack, so what else should i put in there? Rick, I know you have one, what are you packing in there? Torque wrench, WD-40, Gloves, oil, wrenches....

Is the gun a good idea? A lot of ppl say not to use them?

I don't use them to put rims on, just to take them off ;)

maybe a power bleeder if you are away from home more than one day

Looks like you guys have covered most of the important stuff. I also keep brake fluid and hose for emergency bleeding.

I use racing tape, it's easier to remove.

I find a star/cross wrench works just as fast as an electric torque gun and it's a lot safer.

Log book, sunscreen, extra large zip lock plastic bags to throw oily crap into if you make a mess, rags, tread depth gauge, vernier caliper.

I always bring a small cooler with water and RedBull, folding chairs, a tarp and a small tool box.

star/cross wrench is a good idea, saw many of them at Sebring.

so right you are!

and no way a cross wrench is faster than my Dewalt impact, trust me I used to do it the old way and the cordless electric way kicks azz

I only use my impact wrench during the day and cross wrench in the evening as my daughter's room is right behind the garage so no power tools at night. I'd say the impact wrench saves about 2.5 minutes in total per wheel, taking off and putting on.

it's not just the time, but for us old geezers, what makes a huge difference is it saves the bad back, knees and not to mention not breaking into a sweat...

At least I KNOW my bolts aren't stretched. :blaaaa:

It takes one or max two spins of the wrench per bolt. 10 seconds each max. No batteries to replace or charge, no parts to wear out, low cost if broken, lost or stolen. No chance to cross thread bolts.

Star wrench vs power tool is like automatic vs quartz movements.

old school is the way to go. i dont use air compressors. just wait for the tire to cool down, and use some old fashioned lung power.

nah, I got the touch with my impact and tighten the rest all via torque wrench, so no stretched bolts for me... :yak:

and no, the Dewalt is a work of art, so more like a manual wind (star wrench) to a tourbillon (Dewalt) lol.... :p

But I do love Dewalt power tools. The sound of the internal gears in my cordless drill is pure mechanical music.

If your batteries go dead at the track don't come crying to me! :D

I think I saw those Tire Totes on sale at CDN Tire a while back.

But even a regular price, it's not bad price.

just go to a tire store and get the free plastic bags. in fact the bags will at least keep brake dust and crud from falling out onto your seats whereas the tire totes will not...

wish they made a full cover, then I would be interested.

They do, they make a protective insert.

You want the bags to be as air tight as possible to help reduce rubber deterioration.

I use the bags from the tire shops but I'd love to get something like these if they were more air tight.

not a great design...felt liner that you stuff into the tire tote, 2 per tire...I still don't see why they didn't make a zip bag...

I have a set of these totes myself. Great little thing to have as it makes carrying the wheels easier with the handles. Plus it's a lot cleaner. What I do is I use the big-ass baggies and bad the tires before putting the totes on.

Often go on sale for $17.99 / 2. Not a bad price I think. Cdn Tire price that is and Part Source.

Actually on sale starting this Sat. Nov 4th, 2006.

Bavarian Autosport sells the same totes for $40Us/4. So it's cheaper at Cdn Tire, especially when they're on sale for $17.99/2 or $36/4. +tax of course.
