If you car is still under warranty, it's a 'must do'...doesn't have to be at the stealership, but it has to be done...
When my warranty is up, I will not be paying 800 for a tune up...

why is it a must ? you saying if you don't do inspection 2 and something will breake they will not cover it ?

the dealer told me it has to be done at the dealership or my warrenty is void ... but then after inpection 2 my car is only under warranty for another 2000km anyways so doesn't really matter to me

What about M3 owners who have powertrain warranty to 160k KM. I guess it has to be done at a stealership too. I have 65k on my car now, and my inspection 2 is due in 16.5k km, do you think that I can do it early so that I am still covered by the 80k km comprehensive warranty? That way, if anything needs to be fixed, it'll be under warranty (except for certain things)

Can the dealer find out in their computer whether or not I had my oil service 1 even if the car wasnt from Ontario?
I took my car in for an oil change when the car was around 9000 km's , i paid for it since it wasnt scheduled, and the bastards resetted my oil service light. So instead of saying i have 15,000km or so left till oil service it said 24,000 till inspection 1. This was when my car was still in Vancouver. So thats why I was wondering if the dealership would know if I had the free oil service or not. I need to bring my car in soon, I think its at like -3000 km for inspection 1.

Yes, they can! why not? I think 60%+ of computer in the world are already networked! I know T&C are able to pull out every single service record that I did on downtown & autohaus.

yes the computers are link....at least all warranty claims are stored at head office.
I initially serviced at Autohaus....but too far....then went to Parkview....never going back there after the scam....now at Toronto Downtown....
They know what has been claim or not

Ask for Sam, tell him you're from E46toronto and you need I2 done.

you tell them it's been done already i guess. I'm assuming, once you pass the I2 at 80,000kms, you're warranty should be expiring also assuming you didn't get suckered into extended warranty like i did.
In the end, it's all marketing and it all comes out to the same thing with the corporations. They're not dumb to lose money.

I was quoted 2500 for the extended warranty when mine was running out. Not worth it. Especially since I am replacing parts that break down with better ones, rather than the stock ones- I guess the Deiselgirl method of modding (wait until it breaks). :)

You gotta keep good care of your engine that's for sure. That's why I change oil every 5-7K, etc. The extended warranty at BMW was very limited in terms of minimal coverage of items that just wear down over time. It basically has to be some manufacturer's defect that blows up in your face. With my great mechanic (DOn at Autotrend) and the board's sponsors, the costs of normal maintenance will be much lower than the warranty costs (unless something crazy happens).
Live on the edge, baby!

If engine is not cover, what to cover????? BTW, the extended warranty that the dealer offer is not by BMW Canada. And actually it is an insurance that offer by re-insurance company. So BMW canada have no control about it.
The insurance just trust what ever the dealer told them for the claim which meant your dealer is more willing to claim your extended warranty when compare to standard warranty. For standard warranty they won't make money but they will charge the insurance on full repair bill on extended warranty repair. I already got a pair of control arm paid by it which cost at least $800. And the extended warranty that I got is cover everything but wear item & oxygen sensor for another 4yr. So if engine blow up, tranny die, ecu blow up, window regulator blew, air conditioning die...etc, my ass will covered and those are something you won't able upgrade it with aftermarket parts.

I'm not saying that the extended warranty (Autoshield?) is worthless, mind you. Just make your own cost/benefit analysis when you buy it.

Actually, it is a kind of gambling! And I bet on my car will have tons of problems in the coming 4 yr.

that's what the dealership says...they give you free oil changes after 24000 km. but generally if you want to protect your car so it will last for a long time, people change it mid-way through the 24000 km mark. most people change it every 12000km. But if you get it done at the dealer, just make sure they don't reset your indicator cause you still want to keep track of the mileage to get the free oil changes.

uh huh. Go to Cross. They'll do your oil change at a fraction of the dealership rates if you're from E46toronto. And they can reset your oil service light as well.
Speaking of oil change... i remember that 15 hour oil change I had done at cross lately.

Do not reset your service light if you are still under warranty!! You don't want to reset the mileage counter b/c this tells you when you get the free oil changes.

BMW's have 3 years/60k kms maintenance included with purchase (inherantly built into the cost of the car). Not free, but no additional charge.
Only covers basic maintenance though (usually oil service every 24k kms, brake fluid flush), and usually Inspection 2 occurs just outside of that interval. :crying:
