OK - Let's start our own debate on the track merits of each car - Here's a sampling that may not have magazine sponsor bias :yak:

The BMW will have the edge in a power, but on a road track, I would have to give the nudge to the Cayman, I have seen both at Sebring, and the Cayman with a good driver really hooks up.
But only one way to tell....

But only one way to tell....I would tend to agree. By all accounts the Cayman is just plain easier to drive fast, however, most writers agree the M is plenty quick in the right hands. The addition of PASM on the P-Cars along with the PS2's give it a definate track handling edge too. Need to call Michelin Monday :yak:
Power Laps: Keep in mind the Z4MR has half the TR (torsional rigidity) of the Coupe...

Yoka Advan Neovas are the way to go. They are much much much stickier then the PS2s.

I would not use the Top Gear #s as a reference. If you can come across what lap times they do at the Ring, that would be interesting to see.

From those stats the best driver would win in either car.

It's fair to say they're both great cars. I had a serious look at the Cayman S in December 05 just prior to the official announcement of the Coupe. $20,000 and brand loyalty helped with my decision, however, I do love the Cayman.

Exactly. We all love good car. Everybody has their own preference, or everybody would bought a Z06. :)

I think the hp make a big diff when you hit 150mph or above. 40hp diff is a lot.

Would be great to see the Z4M and the Cayman S on the track. I think both are great cars. Both have ooodles of racing heritage and both have very respectable performance figures. Looks like the Z4M with higher hp would likely do better at the the higher end. As for acceleration, I recall the tq was comparable - 262 vs. 259 ft-lbs? From the auto comparisons, it seems like it'd be a drivers race.
I'm actually thinking about the Cayman/Boxster for my next car. Would be nice to get into a Porsche as I've never owned one before. But for now, I'm happy being addicted to the M's 3.2l inline6, one of the best motors ever produced.
