View Full Version : Steering wheel lock
Any of you guys ever lock the steering wheel by mistake? God I hate that stupid feature. When I get out of the car and holding on the steering wheel for support this stupid feature always get activated and when I get back in it's so hard to disable it :)
Anyone got an easy way of disengaging the steering wheel lock? I swear sometime it is so hard that I feel like kicking the shiat out of the steering wheel :D
One time it took me around 5 minutes to disengage it :(

Five minutes? I thought that once you start the car, the wheel unlocks. Can anyone confirm this? :)

I wiggle it. I jiggle it. I grabbed it with both hand and whacked it and it still didn't unlock. At one point I felt like raising my foot and give it a kick but then I thought damn that wouldn't be too good for my car. No you can't just turn the engine on because you can't turn the key if you don't unlock your steering wheel first. Yes I did felt silly and felt like swearing too. I still can't unlock my steering wheel consistently, it just unlock out of luck

Yeah- I remember now. SOmetimes my key wont turn unless I wiggle the wheel at the same time I am turning it. I do it automatically now but never realized it until now. Try to synchronize the key turning and wiggling Rice. Failing that...it should be covered under a warranty right? :)

i think your technique is all wrong....go out to your car right now and try this...
lock your wheel...put the key in the ignition and try to turn it...it wont turn right?...now while STILL trying to turn the key....giggle the wheel...i gurantee you it wil unlock.
edit: damn i was too slow...

ricey, i've never been locked out for 5 mins. I've had my wheel locked...but I do exactly what the others have said and it works. the first time this happened to me, I actually didn't know what to do and i just jiggled it while trying to turn the key. and it worked...so i do it all the time when i lock it. I actually don't even know how it gets locked. you should get it checked out if it's a concern.
hey rice --> have you been having delayed ignition on your car? I've had this since i first got the car, but when chris mentioned to me yesterday that he doesn't experience that...I was getting paranoid.

I'll try what Jersey suggested to see if it'll work consistently. As for delayed ignition I don't quite know what you mean. Do you mean when you turn the key it won't fire right away? I haven't tried other BMWs but it feels normal just like my integra.
