Drove up with my buddies in the Cobras. 1km and you can still hear those engines...instantaneous torque, no waiting...driving through morning traffic was fun...gap? what gap?

Great day, met some great people, fantastic cars, great drivers.

Highlight of the day was some hot lapping with Scott Goodyear and Chris Bye driving me in the Gallardo.

I asked Scott to talk me through the corners and he gave me way over the top details turn by turn.

On the infamous turn 2 he was saying you can sometimes do a little left foot braking through here...yah right. i think he was mistaking me for someone that could drive...

Man, that Gallardo can fly. Hooked amazingly flat through all the corners and was so nice and non-eventful in 4 wheel drifts through the sweepers.

Contrast that with the 427 Cobra. 565HP and 2500lbs means holy shiite. Mike had 335mm slicks on his and he had the Cobra drifting through a few corners...mean, rough, raw, a real man's car...it also takes a real driver to make that thing go as fast as he did. lapping in the high-1:30's  and he was taking it easy as it was the car's first time at the track...

Perry King flew up from Cali for this event and he was a super nice guy. He was taking people out for demo laps, so he can actually drive!

If that Exige S belonged to some young guy, I was at Cayuga with him once.

Nice pics, I especially like the LTW Gallardo.

Love the pics, esp. the cobra. I'm all for Euro hitech cars, but something carnal about a big block V8 rumbling. Nothing comes close to it.

Would've been cool to see the cobra in a 4-wheel slide.

I have a good memory of Scott going off hard into the tire barrier at corner two in a Turbo Cup car. Great pics Glen!

what was amazing was the level of driving and control of the Gallardo by Scott even at 6 or 7/10ths (his) that car was friggin flying.

So when you getting one?
Before or after the Atom?

very funny baller...you first.

amazing thing was, that once I got aclimatized to the Gallardo, being in it for a good part of the day and seeing/feeling the shiite being driven out of it, it came down from the untouchable pedestal status I had assigned to the exotic car. Don't get me wrong, it's still a unobtainable dream car exotic for me, but it came down to earth a bit (in a good way) and I had a better and deeper appreciation for the car.

very impressed with it given it was beaten up the whole day by race car drivers.

incidentally, Jim Kenzie was also there and brought along a white M6 convert. Not too many people were going for rides...

You're lucky you had a chance to ride with some pro drivers. You can learn so much from them, esp. when they walk you thru their thought process and driving approach.

yes and no. to think a normal driver (like me) can even attempt to drive like a pro driver will never be possible. either you are or you aren't, it's that different a level of driving.

I get what you mean. Ever seen a pro hit a golf ball? It's amazing what they can do with the exact same equipment, exact same ball, exact same conditions. And when you arm them with pro level equipment, it's a whole different level.

But still, when I played with a touring pro one time, I learned so much every time he walked me thru his thought process and execution..

I see driving like golf..lots of concentration, lots of coordination, lots of mental and physical strength. It's said that the golf swing is one of the most complex movements to get/do right and the one thing that is more complex is racecar driving. Thoughts??

If you've got some basic physical capabilities coupled with depth perception and allowed the opportunity to practice something 8 hours per day for a number of years, you're likely to get pretty good at it. The greats in all sports however, have physical and concentration skills beyond the average.

well, the downside to screwing up is much much worse in a racecar lol...

hard to say, I think it's all relative. I think at a certain level, there are so many variables that only natural talent can bring. No amount of practice or coaching will ever get one to that level. How many drivers make it to F1 and how many golfers make it to top 20 golfers?

Well if you screw up in golf, guess you lose a golf ball and/or a stroke. Not much compared with a multi-car crash, broken bones or loss of life.

But yeah, agree that the top 5% of any sport is mostly a result of innate talent and the ability to "get it", where no amt of practice can supplement.

Interestingly, Woods was quoted as saying he can sense an air bubble in a newly gripped club. He can also aim 280yds and hit a target within 3 ft - when he's "on".
